About the Course
Formby is the prettiest of the eight top-notch links courses located between St Annes and Liverpool. It is bordered on three sides by pine trees, giving the links a decidedly softer, heathland feel compared to its neighbours. The course was founded in 1884 with input from Willie Park Jr and has evolved into a demanding test measuring nearly 6,900 yards. The natural red squirrel habitat that surrounds several holes adds to the special atmosphere. Formby has hosted the Amateur Championship, the English Amateur, and numerous Open qualifying events over the years. The Ladies' club at Formby (a separate entity) is equally distinguished and has hosted the Women's British Open.
