About the Course

Hillside Golf Club is an underrated gem, separated only by a footpath from its noble next-door neighbour, Royal Birkdale. The club was founded in 1911 but the course was substantially redesigned by Fred Hawtree and J.H. Taylor into a much longer and more testing layout. The front nine is relatively flat parkland in character, but the back nine reveals an entirely different course — a dramatic journey through pine-clad sand dunes with elevated tees, tumbling fairways, and panoramic views. The 12th through 16th holes form one of the finest sequences of holes in Lancashire golf. Hillside is a regular Open Championship qualifying venue and has hosted European Tour events.
