About the Course
The refurbished Machrie golf course reopened for play in May 2017 and is now geared up to handle visitors. The 43-bedroom hotel opened in 2018 under the Another Place brand, creating one of Scotland's most complete golf resort experiences. The original course dates to 1891 and was laid out by Willie Campbell across the flat machair of the Laggan peninsula, near Port Ellen on the Isle of Islay. The course is famous for its blind shots — some truly blind, requiring intimate local knowledge. The setting is extraordinary: Islay is the whisky island, home to some of Scotland's most celebrated distilleries (Bowmore, Ardbeg, Laphroaig), and a round at the Machrie is invariably followed by distillery visits. An unforgettable experience for those who make the trip by ferry or plane.
