About the Course
Machrihanish Golf Club must be one of the most natural, romantic and enjoyable places to play golf in the whole of the British Isles. The course was originally laid out by Old Tom Morris in 1876 and is not long by modern standards, but it is sheer fun from start to finish. The opening hole — a blind tee shot across the Atlantic beach — is one of the most thrilling in links golf. Situated at the tip of the Kintyre Peninsula, the course is not easy to reach (the nearest large town is Campbeltown, itself remote) but the pilgrimage is well rewarded. The fairways follow the natural contours of the duneland, with burns, bunkers, and the wind off the Atlantic providing all the defence needed. Not to be confused with the adjacent Machrihanish Dunes course.
