About the Course
Royal Dublin Golf Club was founded in 1885 and moved to its current home on Bull Island — a remarkable natural nature reserve in Dublin Bay — in 1889. H.S. Colt redesigned the course in 1920, creating the classic layout that remains largely intact today. The course is an out-and-back links with the city of Dublin visible in the distance, the bay on one side, and the North Bull Wall on the other. At nearly 6,900 yards and par 72, Royal Dublin is a genuine championship test that has hosted the Irish Open on multiple occasions, most memorably in 1985 when Seve Ballesteros played one of the most audacious final-round recoveries in golf history. The Bull Island setting, designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, gives Royal Dublin a unique ecological significance.
