About the Course
Doonbeg is the course that Greg Norman built, but it was comprehensively redesigned by Martin Hawtree over a two-year period after the property was acquired in 2014 by Donald Trump. Norman's original 2002 design was remarkable in its own right — routed through enormous sand dunes on the Atlantic coast of Clare, with dramatic elevation changes and ocean views from almost every hole. Hawtree's redesign extended the course, rebuilt many greens, and added new holes that maximised the dramatic duneland terrain. The resulting course is a genuine world-class links test, with the highest sand dunes in Irish championship golf providing a spectacular and challenging backdrop. The on-site Doonbeg Lodge is among the finest golf resort accommodations in Ireland.
