About the Course
Trump Turnberry Ailsa stands on the Ayrshire coastline commanding views across the Firth of Clyde towards the Isle of Arran and Ailsa Craig. The par-70 links hosted four Open Championships between 1977 and 2009, most famously the 1977 'Duel in the Sun' between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus. The course was originally designed by Willie Fernie in 1906, then rebuilt by Mackenzie Ross after wartime damage in 1951. A landmark renovation by Martin Ebert completed in 2016 dramatically reshaped the routing, extending the course and adding new seaside holes around the lighthouse peninsula. The 9th and 10th holes, playing directly beneath the lighthouse with the sea crashing below, are among the most spectacular in championship golf.
